May we all learn from this!!! Cutting tape at the toe of a razor with another razor while honing cost me a millimeter of blade width once't.

I took a couple of tiny chips out of an otherwise good blade yesterday with a rotary plastic brush on my dremel. I just have to remember not to hold it like that again. Metal cleaning (abrasive) polish and plastic brush on the dremel does polish well, without the heat build up of my buffer.

Ah, once again the dremel strikes. The natural enemy of the straight razor.

Yes indeed. I can deal with a couple of 1mm deep chips better than shattering a whole blade, as I know some have done .

It may look possible and you might be tempted to use your razor for something other than shaving but......

Wow, the responses have been pretty restrained, usually it is SWAMBO who uses our razors for slicing of inappropriate materials.

Should be able to get it back in order by the looks of it.
A good lather is half the shave.

I was still using it...even with the chips in the blade. And all I had to use for a strop was a old , but blank, Tandy leathercraft belt.
But today I ordered a, you know,...... actual leather strop for straight razors. I cant wait to get it.

Plus I have watched some of Lynns DVD, which is excellent to say the least.
Lynns dvd is excellent! You are lucky my friend that it didn't turn out any worse!!!!

It's ok to use a Dremel but you have to be very careful & let the tool spin away from the edge. I'm sure you know this. That and go lengthwise with it spinning away from the toe. I polish my blades with a Dremel & it works great with Maas.

    Oh Happy DAY!!!!!!

I just received my very first straight razor supplies from Straight Razor Designs! I went cheap, but I am very happy with what I got. I got the Proraso soap, just on the looks of the package. Some things you can tell will be good on sight alone.

I bought an Omega synthetic bristle brush, which looked small in the ad, but when I received it it was larger than I thought. I am happy with that.

Then on name recognition alone I decided to get the Jeris aftershave. But not the name recognition that you would think.

I went to college with a kid named Jeris. We were both part of a early entry program that sent us to college only a few weeks after high school graduation. Kids that goofed off in high school or did just enough to pass were placed in these early entry programs.

But anyway this Jeris sold me a outfit at the end of the summer, for I think 50 dollars. Then we were playing Tecmo Bowl on the NES, and he gave me a chance to gamble the balance due for the clothes. I took the bet, but lost as he scored the winning TD using Walter Payton.

Things happened and he ended up not getting paid. I transferred from the university, but then re enrolled the next year. So I return to the university thinking all balances were cleared, but that was not so with Jeris, who demanded his 100$.

A fist fight ensued between us over the matter, ending in more or less a draw. But even Jeris acknowledged my good fight as I was able to place him in a hold from which he could not escape.

And this was back before the whole MMA thing took off. Only UFC 2 had taken place, with the legendary Royce Gracie revolutionist fighting in general.

Now Jeris was a football player for the university, a running back, no less, so this was not a small feat. Although the fight did take place after him seeing me in front of a dorm after practice. And he blamed the way the fight ended on the fact that he had just finished practice.

Anyway when I saw the bottle named Jeris I immediately bought it. At the end of the day Jeris was cool. So it was not a bad memory.
