Cased pair of Genco Army & Navy
The razors are the easy part. 6/8 with blued tangs. Should come out nice without disassembly. The box is where I'm stumped. Has anyone experience in restoring these old boxes? The wood box itself seems quit sound and the lock works. The interior restore seems pretty straight forward but the exterior appears to be covered in some type of textured paper and glued to the wood.
I'm sure I can sand off the old finish without much trouble and I'll leave the lock alone as it is riveted in place. Any pointers on how to recover the box would be greatly appreciated.

I saw those on the bay. I never saw a 'matched' set of them before and wondered if the box was from a different pair. Without removing the rivets and latches I don't see how a recover would be done. I sorta 'painted' a Henckels box with a Sharpie Magnum once. Turned out pretty good.
Would not hurt to try?Last edited by sharptonn; 10-29-2014 at 07:54 PM.

Yea maybe too much but you can't buy a new low end Dovo razor for what I paid for both including shipping. I do have that razor disorder I read so much about. I collect Geneva/Genco and did not have the Army & Navy. They are very common in 5/8 but not so much in 6/8. The razors match the cut outs in the box perfect but I guess there is really know way of telling if they came in the box unless maybe I could find a period advertisement. I saw the box you did. Looks like it came out nice.

Karl

In retrospect, you did get a good deal, You just beat me out!
The box you probably saw was one which I had used the Magnum on the inside sides and a divider.
The one I was referring to was a Henckels box with 'leatherette' covering it. Not as worn as yours, but I worked it over with the Sharpie and it looked pretty good. As I said, Cannot hurt to try! Looking forward to seeing the box and razors as you complete!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 19I would think the exterior would be leather. if so you can buy thin glove leather at most any hobby lobby.old thin leather would crumble and peel sort of like paper.
