Japanese razor tool
I found this interesting. We see the gouge-marks in Kamisoris, But is this where they come from?
Saw it on fleabay and the seller has several and the razors as well. Supposed to make it easier to sharpen. Japanese hollow-grinding? Or Planing?
"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Being a Carpenter myself I would hazard a guess and say that's a Japanese Carpenters rebate tool for removing a very specific cut like a Granny's tooth we call them in the UK only that one works like a traditional spoke shave.

Thanked: 116It's a drawknife for steel, it was mentionned on Jim Rion's blog way back in 2010. Google for nihon kamisori sen and it will be the first hit. A similar tool is used to burnish metal or prepare it for polishing in several other Japanese metal crafts.

Thanked: 995It's called a sen. A good way to remove unwanted metal with excellent control. Still requires muscle.
Used to do the cuts the long way in a blade, blood grooves in the West, hi or bo-hi in the east.
