    Default Great grandpa kamisori restoration.

    Hi All
I'm new to the straight world, and starting with a challenge.

On a recent trip to Japan, my GF found her old Great gramps kamisori, with wooden box and stone.
brought it back home and I'm on a mission.

    1) to know as much as possible, such as manufacturer, approx year
    2) to restore it as much as possible.

Posted this to badger and blade earlier, but there was not a lot of help there, as I get the opinion is more DE based.
    Could you please help?

    some pictures.

G'day mate and welcome to SRP
onimaru55 (OZ) is Sydney based and into Jnats and maybe able to shed some light on it,
If not I am sure some of the rock hoarders will chime in and be able to help
There are plenty who can hopefully help with the Blade also
    Not this black duck unfortunately

    itai,

    itai .......... Ouch!

+1 on Substance's post!! Oz may know what you have, but also where to find your answers.

Can't help on the kanji on the blade, and without the stamps, no guess on the stone origin, except due to its color, an Asagi.

Welcome to the forum, glad you've joined!!

    Best Regards,

    Howard

Also to check the true condition of the blade you need a pic of the back side to determine the true level of wearer it don't worry just seen the other pics lol looks like a fair bit of wear
But the more knowledgable members can confirm

hey substance, thanks for posting the pics directly.
I didn't quite get the angle I need to take the picture.
can you remember any picture I can check, so I can duplicate the shot?
PS: I expect a fair bit of wear too, can't see much of a bevel besides a faint shadow
EDIT: Can the stone be one of these? http://www.metalmaster-ww.com/product/214
Pretty sure it's from Yaginoshima by looking at a few links..
    Yaginoshima Asagi, as substance suggested.
I found a video of a Yaginoshima Suita, that looks similar as well, but every other suita I found elsewhere looks browner.

Great grandpa also lived 100km from Kyoto, so close to the Yaginoshima mine.

Am I in the right track?
This is fun, like ancestry.com of shaving :-p

I know absolutely nothing about JNats other than their Country of origin, i did have a little root around on a website just then however to try and make some visual comparisons and found this
Buy Shoubudani Asagi Lv 5+ | Buy Japanese Natural Stones | Services EU | JNS Slibe Service DK Kokkeknive Reviews | Japanese Natural Stones

also 2 other links at the same site,
some really nice and interesting stuff in here
    About Japanese Natural Stones

and a self explanatory by the URL link here
    Natural Stones glossary and Appearance

hope you find something useful in there, even if not its all interesting stuff.

Sorry, can't help with any of the information you are seeking. Just want to say that is a great heirloom that you have. Probably well worth having it restored by someone who knows what they are doing with a kamisori.
