Wood Scale Blanks
It's Been a struggle to find blanks long enough for razor scales, most of the stuff i find is 5" and under, which is just a hair to short for most of the razors i've restored. Other big problem is most knife blanks are also way to thick and require alot of thinning. I've been going through rastamanwood on ebay sense he cuts a few sets of scales and puts them on auction, but i don't always have time to deal with bidding on some scales.
So i decided I'd just buy a block and cut out slabs my self. Found a block and started chatting with the seller about my struggles ™. He was pretty receptive to the idea of cutting some longer blocks and blanks for SR scales.
He just got back to me with what he cut up last night, which is more then i need. so i thought i'd pass it along to you guys. If your looking for some blanks check out http://www.paulnealknives.com/apps/webstore/ he should have a few sets left and may be adding more.

Here is a site that has some longer thinner stuff or even square stock that you can cut into scale slabs. Exotic Wood, Birdseye Maple, Curly Maple & Tiger Maple | Bell Forest Products I have also gotten wood from eBay in slabs and blocks. As mentioned above WoodCraft is another good site.

Thanked: 25That reminds me...I have some awesome stabilized Curly Koa and Claro Walnut for razor scales somewhere! It's around 1/4" thick though.

Certain woods it isn't bad when they have a tight grain pattern and can't tell the difference from one scale to the other, but for others I like to get blocks so I can cut matching sets. Some woods I hate buying without seeing what I will get because if they don't look like what I want I end up not liking it. Walnut is one wood that has to be just right for me.

Same, I prefer blocks or slabs pre-cut from the same block, It might just be MY OCD, but i have to have matching grain and figure on both slabs.. Rastamanwood is another ebay seller that has some nice blanks cut from blocks, he got a mention yesterday here, glad to see him getting some attention. Any time you can find matching stock for razor scales is a good day in my book.,
