Generally, I buy in the US. Even with import duties that is a lot cheaper than buying in the EU, and usually I can't even find the stuff I need in the EU.

Bruno, I have noticed through exhaustive internet searches that there seems little in the way of vendors in the EU who cater to restorations. A bit strange given the provenance of so many established razor firms on european soil. I also agree that what is available is overpriced. It's a shame. On the other hand the situation encourages DIY brainstorming

Yeah, but some things like G10 or Kirinite scales material is either unavailable, or only available in a couple of colors and usually the wrong size. So despite all the brainstorming, you'll probably end up ordering in the US.

The EU doesn't have the same level of homebrew can-do society. Try finding specific sizes of ball bearings or other things you might need for non standard DIY projects. Very hard. DIY shops and even professional hardware stores very much have the attitude 'if it's not standard, you don't need it'.

I think you can sum it up in 'supply and demand'.

I can source most things that I need for restoration either in the UK or Europe including horn, exotic wood, bone, brass rod, nickel silver rod, all types of thin metal sheet and any tool I need. I recently found (from Jamie) a supplier of G10 in a decent range. The things I buy from the US when required are micro fasteners, pivot bolts and paua/abalone sheet for scales. The problem with buying sheet material is the ridiculous carriage charges that Macecraft apply - it was something like $60 last time I ordered - and that was for about four sheets of 8x5".
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.
