Thanked: 3215Next time hone it first, to make sure it will hold an edge, before you invest a lot of time in the blade.
If you sand spine to edge and heel to toe, you can cut you sanding by alternating the direction.
A cork wrapped in a 3x3 in piece of 4mm craft foam and wrapped in sand paper is much easier on the fingers.

Word. I actually bought these from Whipped Dog, since I knew they would arrive with an edge on them.
I also use alternate directions, which indeed seems to help quite a bit.
Thanks for the suggestion for sanding! I do use corks, but havnt tried foam... will try that, as perhaps my fingers will cramp less!

BTW, here is where I am at at this point, thanks for a couple of inches of ice on the streets outside today!
As you can see, under the big glob of rust on the Duck was a LOT of devil's spit. It was too deep to get out without making my half hollow turn to a full hollow.... so I left it be! My sanding was starting to affect the lines of the razor, so I had to stop... I also didnt want to take too much away from the engraving. So the razor will have to live with a bunch of devil's spit.
So, now on to getting the right scales, and pinning the EC and painting the Duck's tang gold.
Anyone know what paint I should be using for the Duck? Gotta find some Goldedge scales for it, too.Last edited by Aldwyn; 03-02-2015 at 12:19 AM.
