    Default My first razor restoration

Anyone that knows me, knows me as someone obsessed with restoring things. I restore furniture, cars, trucks (currently in the middle of restoring a 1956 Dodge C3 pickup) and tons of other vintage and classic items. Being fairly new to straight razor shaving (2 years) I decided to give it a go. I found this Wade and Butcher "Celebrated" at an antique shop for $30. It was already in amazing condition so it didn't require too much serious restoration work. After working on it, I'm pretty sure the scales aren't original because I've seen this razor with original scales and they looked slightly different. Plus there's no way the original scales would be in that good of condition with the razor being that abused. It looked like whoever owned it previously took some really rough grain sandpaper to the face of the razor. It's a miracle that the etching stayed intact while getting the major scratches out. Nothing close to the work gssixgun or undream put out, but as the famous Coach Z would say, "I think it's lookin' purty good thur!"

Very nice. Hopefully when I give my first restoration a try it comes out that well.

I doubt anyone really hits it out of the park the first time. There is a lot to learn and it looks like you did your homework. Nice restore.

Looks like you did a good job - don't be shy - add a few more close-ups.

My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.
