polishing washers
I have been using washers from Micro Fastener but was not completely satisfied with the look of them. by using a piece of 1/6 brass rod with the end peened , a piece of plastic tube from a ball point pen and a drill i now can polish and radius the edge in just a few minutes.

Thanked: 1Excellent idea! I am getting ready to pin a razor as soon as my washers come in, I think I will try this.

So you are chucking brass pins, peened, in a Dremel/drill to polish/finish peens? Looks pretty nice!
Be shure they go on the front side! Gotta peen the other side to match!Last edited by sharptonn; 01-23-2015 at 03:56 AM.

actually i'm polishing the washers not the pins (i've gotten the washers even shinier than the image using first a fine file and then micro-mesh ) but i guess it would work for the pins too. can't figure out how to hold the razor in the chuck to polish the other side though.

OH! So you are polishing the old steel washers, or is this something that Microfasteners sells?! Looks great, no matter how!
I tend to polish those up before I drill the pins out. Easier to touch up later.
Your technique looks to work great!
Saw a fellow once mount those to a Dremel mandrel with screw/washer. Rubbed it on a polishing cloth. Good to clean them up.
Love those old steel collars!Last edited by sharptonn; 01-23-2015 at 04:28 AM.

That's rather clever. The domed look without the bulk.
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Really good tip that I shall be using forthwith - or even sooner.
My service is good, fast and cheap. Select any two and discount the third.

I use an entirely different non mechanical method, I tape a 10" x 8" piece of 1200 grit wet & dry paper to a marble slab then just wrap a piece of masking tape tightly around my right index finger sticky side on the outside then pick up a brass washer and buff away on the wet & dry then finish off rubbing on a tightly held micro cloth those washers will be gleaming.

i just found the washers from Micro Fasteners to be too square on the edges, they didn't look enough like the ones i was replacing or trying to replicate. This way i can given them more of the domed look.
