    Default Kidde extinguisher recall

    Hi all,

I figured that this might be a good place to post this since most workshops have (or at least should have!) an extinguisher. Mods - please move if it would have a better home elsewhere.

Anyway, Kidde has issued a recall on certain fire extinguishers. Turns out both the one under my kitchen sink and the one in the workshop are part of the recall. And if I was 2 for 2 on mine, I figured it's probably worth spreading the word.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

I ended up calling them. The first person I spoke to was useless, the second extremely helpful. She took the time to make sure I was getting the right info from the labels, etc., and talked me through the process in a couple of minutes.

Thanks for doing this Cangooner - I missed the attic access recall.
And the site is very slow - here is the picture and the opening info from the site - you would need to follow on for model numbers but the manufacture dates helped me...

This recall involves 31 models of Kidde disposable fire extinguishers with ZytelŪ black plastic valves. The recalled extinguishers are red, white or silver and are either ABC or BC rated. The ratings can be found to the right of the nameplate. Manufacture dates included in the recall are July 23, 2013 through October 15, 2014. A 10-digit date code is stamped on the side of the cylinder, near the bottom. Digits five through nine represent the day and year of manufacture in DDDYY format. Date codes for recalled units manufactured in 2013 are XXXX 20413 X through XXXX 36513 X and 2014 are XXXX 00114 X through XXXX 28814 X. A nameplate affixed to the front of the fire extinguisher has one of the following model numbers:
