I'm with Pixel on the Epoxy.

And I like BobH idea - no epoxy worries, and nothing permanent.

I use 3/4 " plywood with rubber glued to both sides. I can stack them or just use one. A little water and it sticks to the work bench (smooth) and to the hone.
It's cheap, not heavy and 1 is all you need. All my friends have 1 too :<0)
I have the steel holders for my DMTs but just use them when lapping.

I have pretty much replaced using 5 minute epoxy with 30 minute epoxy for obvious reasons. It's a longer setup with final adjustments and I think it is stronger and longer lasting than 5 minute. It cures completely in 24 hours but is solid in 30 minutes. You can get it here. TowerHobbies.com | Tower Hobbies 30-Minute Epoxy 9 oz. I use it for setting my knots in brush handles and a lot of other projects.

Another hint I have come across is using plastic cups and mixing sticks I found on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

For stability I use this rubberized webbing I buy at the hardware store. When it gets dirty I swish it in some soapy water.

If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I think we SR shavers tend to overthink the honing process

I was reading a little comparison of the various and sundry forums and while the person did say that SRP was superior to all others by a fair margin, that particular issue did come up in the discussion.

Any slow setting epoxy will work. I use system3 on most of my work. Go with a 30 minute epoxy, use a liberal amount (put it on like peanut butter), 2 pistol clamps with padded jaws. You will get some squeeze out when you clamp them. Take some painters tape and run it around the bottom stone. That way the squeeze out will run down the tape and not the stone. Then after an hour un-clamp, remove the tape and let it set for at least a day to fully cure.
