Default Need suggestions and direction for Rescale and Restoration.

This is my first razor, an Economy Supply 44/20 Model 800. What sort of scales would you all suggest, and is the inlay worth keeping in the design? I'm considering a bright neon acrylic rescale. Thanks in advance for any leads and my apologies if I'm in the wrong place.

    Cheers!

I would keep the inlays...but if this is your first rescale, it is NOT going to be easy. Adding inlays takes a bit of practice. Maybe save the scales and make another set.

Yea, there is a lot more to keeping the bolsters and making scales to fit the razor and bolsters, they are super thin.

That is a classic razor design with the blued tang, I would go with something more period to the razor, some black, translucent or streaked horn or tortoise scales with the bolsters and inlay remounted… would look killer.

10pups and I think Glen, GSsixgun have tutorials on removing and remounting bolsters and inlays.

Great razor and box, too bad that razor is broken, they clean nice,I love that color of scale.

I would work hard at preserving the black (bluing) on the razor. That one has likely seen little if any used. It comes off fairly easily. If you cover it with low tack painters tape it will go a long way to saving it. I did not realize what it was and polished it off on one of my early restores. The blade would likely come out quite nice with just a little polish. I tend to be a little traditional on scale materials but this one I am feeling would go eel with some material I have been eyeballing called interlaced acrylester. There is a shop on EvilBay that sells it. If I have peaked your curiosity PM me and I will send you his seller info.

Gents, thanks for all the replies. I do like the classic look of the razor, after all that's why I bought it. I've already landed on and purchased some of this Thunderstorm Kevlar, it has gold wire in it. It won't be the same color yellow, but it will be yellowish nonetheless. I think the 44-20 inlay will really set it off. I'm not sure if I'm going to commit to the inlay on the bottom yet, but I'll check out those users' tips. I'll just have to see how it goes. Exciting stuff!

If you click on my name and view blog entries I have a tutorial on how I make scales with inlays.

The Kevlar is gonna be TOUGH to shape I would guess. I never worked with it so I don't know for sure.
    GOOD LUCK... Keep us updated!

Oh yeah... make SURE to use breathing protection when working on the scales!

Well, everything I think I need I've ordered. Soon I'll go buy a 1/16th split bit to start deconstruction and take a closer look at the pivot. I have not ordered washers for the pivot however, and I'm still learning more about centering the blade and shaping the wedge. I'm not sure what material to use for the wedge, or if I should taper it or not. I might use the same nylon material or source some aluminum scrap.

By any chance do you have the piece that was broken off? If so it can be repaired fairly easily.

No, definitely not but that is a good question. I think I'll match up one of the new scales potentially to the current one good one, tape it off, and then make another new one that matches. I don't know if I care to keep the original shape quite yet, and I haven't embarked on any sketches yet.
