The polishes I use from coarsest to finest IMO:
    Turtle Wax rubbing compound
    TarnX
White Diamond (this also leaves an obvious wax like protection on blade)
    Maas
    Simichrome
    Mothers Aluminum Mag
    Flitz
    BlueMagic (zero abrasive)
    Nevr-Dull (zero abrasive)

Which I use depends on the situation. It isnt always just a progression and rarely, in fact never do I use them all. Certain ones seem to have ingredients that work to remove tarnish chemically in addition to abrasively. For scales I like simichrome, blue magic and Mothers Plastic Polish.
If I had to pick 1 all around for blades it would be Mothers as it seems to work using a fairly mild abrasive as well as chemical ingredients for tarnish. For scales, ironically enough, if I had to pick one it would also be Mothers Plastic Polish (for material appropriate applications of course)

wallyeyeman uses Mothers on his brushes/both the acrylics and the metals and Swears by it. Here again the 'P' word pops up/Preference.
