    Default Felt alternative strop

    G'day all,
been playing with this idea for a few weeks now.
i came across some compressed polyester pin board & thought it would be a great alternative to pasting my felt backing strop.
so I bit the bullet and bought a 600x800mm (24"x32") board from Bunnings hardware for $22 in Aus,

    then I cut it up & got 15 off 300x80mm & 4 off 400x80mm pieces

I have applied 0.5 micron Chrox & 0.1 micron Ferrox mixed with mineral oil. Which has so far taken 2 weeks to dry.

But also applied another 2 with the Chrox & Ferrox crayons I made a while back, now these worked a lot better. So added a lace to each & went for it

now so far these have only had 4 str8s over them as part of today's honing session in place of my Balsa strops,
but definately worth while and I find them a lot more easier to use than the hard balsa as they have a little bit of flex, like my Felt strop they feel a bit rough to start with so hopefully like my felt they will smooth out more with more use as they break in
    cheers
    Dion

so for a bit of a test, I did a right cheek only WTG shave test with my 8/8" W&B straight of the 20 laps on each post honing,
cut down the 4 days growth like a hot knife through butter & to my surprise it wasn't harsh feeling at all.

then did my 30 laps on clean Felt followed by about 80 laps on English bridle
continued the shave with a very smooth BBS Sunday arvo shave.

now my Spanish Monkey Brunoblade, a Bengall & the Blue wonder I honed also didn't even get a shave test so will be either doing a 3 razor shave tomorrow morning or they will be spread over the week LOL
    Saved,
    to shave another day.
