Maggard Razor Pinning Kit help.
Hi, I'm thinking of purchasing the razor pinning kit from Maggard. Has anyone ever used this kit? The description says the rod is 1/16", but the title says "Brass Razor Pinning Kit(1/8").
Does anyone know the score? Is the rod 1/16"?
I have an email in to Maggard, but I'm sitting at the cart page waiting to punch "proceed to checkout".Mike

Thanked: 2284I use it. It's called a 1/8" pinning kit because the washers are 1/8" diameter on the outside. He also sells a washer size bigger, but it's not listed at the moment. It's a great kit for pinning razors.

While I've never used the 'KIT' in question; my dealings with Maggard Razors have been 100% POSITIVE Transactions!
Great Customer Relations and Support!
A BIG PLUS for me is that it's a Cottage Industry with Brad and Casie running it.
I Highly Recommend Maggard Razors as a place to do business with! Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

I've used there pinning kit and they have bags of washers and rods in 12 in lengths and you can cut the pins to length you need. when I order the kits I useally get the brass and the silver kits so no matter what razor I repin I will have the right material excluding the ones with the large bulls eye washers on the outside. Good bunch of folks to deal with.

It's a good kit. The 1/8" size is the size of the washers. The rods are 1/16".

Good advice However I'd be sure to take it a couple of steps further and start with some 220 grit wet n dry sandpaper and go up to 2K to have the head AND the surface highly polished. Any 'dings' on the ball or the plate will transfer to the much softer brass.
You could find a small steel block locally or you could pick up an already polished jeweler's block at Amazon (I'm pretty anal about some things so I'd probably see if I could get it even more polished) . It doesn't need to be huge. Remember when pinning it's tap, tap, tap, not Bang, Bang, Bang.

I have used his kits also & they are great. I have also purchased from Micro Fasteners but they don't have the small stainless washers. I have found them at another source which is most likely where Brad gets them because they appear the same.
