Cleaning Blue steel.
Hi guys, I recently bought a Dremel to polish up my straights.
I have some polishing compound , Blue Magic Polish and some Mass.
All my blades are looking amazing, polished, honed and oiled.
In my collection are 3 blued blades , 2 x Hart, "Not a Replica" and one Baxters BCX Hart. These blades are blued and I'm not sure how to clean them.
I think the blue/black colour is just an outer layer, I'm not sure....
Any advise would be appreciated .
Many thanks...

A citrus cleaner and oil. If you have rust, #000 steel wool, with light pressure.
Think of it, or lookup gun finishes.
Otherwise it's furnace blued by heat, and not a finish, similar to cold blue.

Thanked: 3164I would just oil it. I used to do blueing using the hot salts procedure which is much betteer than cold blueing, but it will still come off like any other plating like gold, as it is only a very thin surface colouration - trust me, I know - I have had to clean up blades when the process blued them instead of just the tangs.
Regards,
Neil

Cheers, they are not rusty or in a real bad way so oil will do.
I will leave the Dremel in its case for now.
2 things I love about Hart Steel blades. 1.The edges are amazing / 2. They strip down

Thanked: 3228Yes sir, all I have ever done with guns that were blued was gently wipe the surface dry and gently oil them before putting away. Found WD40 worked just fine.

Oil did just fine. I even replaced the washers...
The scales are Tennessee Hickory btw.
I have 5 Hart steel razors, each one comes with a bottle of oil , so I will never run low on blade oil

Damn, now that’s a rough neighborhood, when you got to eat your fish & chips with a gun in your hand… or some real hungry folks, that like their fish…
