    Top 3:

    1. The faucet is deadly to a razor edge, I dinged several razors when I was starting out.
    2. Cracked blades are harder to spot than I thought. Bought a vintage blade that looked perfect at the antique store and didn't see the crack until I noticed it behaving weird on the hone.
    3. You can fix damn near anything with patience. The oppostie is true too.
    Fuit radere viam antique masculum.

This is an easy one, never rush, especially when you're new. That blade deserves respect and if you don't give it, it will tell you when you don't. In my first year using a straight, I was shaving before my Dad and I hit the links for a fathers day game of golf. I was late and tried rushing through a quick shave. Took a flap of skin off my chin and then couldn't get the stupid thing to stop bleeding. The first 3 holes of golf I had to keep a tissue on hand to wipe the blood.

This is a good thread i think.. because I've made a big number of little dumb mistakes.. some not so dumb, others totally!
Dismantled razors for cleaning.. ruined good collars and scales.

Dropped razor trying to carry other things.. now I treat razors with more respect.

Chopped razor edge on faucet while shaving! Lame

Improper handling while buffing (a finished razor!) Buffing wheel caught the edge and ripped razor out of hand to the floor at mach speed destroying blade!!! Oh the pain!

Hand polishing, blade cut through cloth and sliced me a bit.. stupid mistake!

Well, I guess I feel better getting that off my chest. Lol!

When changing from a round point I have learned that failure to focus on square points proves they have a much longer memory than I do, the sneaky little vampire bastages. Sure, they don't want a bucketful but they often want a taste.

Lol man I stopped using square points and the other pointy styles, not permanently but for a while, after some nasty cuts I think it's best for now chops me by the ear and neck.. slices not nicks..

That's gotta be a lot of pressure knowing it's the waiting keeps us all coming back.

So, this is like the opposite of a mistake? It's a good thing.
