Hello,
I've used CA on 3 of the 5 custom restorations I've done so far. And the subtleties involved with the use of CA are manifold, this is I'm sure true with most aspects of SR work.
In various posts I read of a number of factors before using it, but not enough and found myself pouring through old threads in search of info.
On one of my jobs I put horn scale inlay on one side with CA, but not the other. The strength of one side was different than the other and over time even though the wedge had a good angle relative to the tang taper, the scales began to bend unevenly.
So in the future I think unless a small inlay, what I do to one scale I'll do to the other.. to be even.
This was just one issue with CA, another one being that it shrinks when it dries and has some serious strength to pull and warp materials.
Anyway, the point is that I want to find the best tools for the job and in this case finishes and glues.
There is an epoxy that I read about
called Mirror Coat. It is a good one I hear and hope its easier than CA to finish scales with! We will see. Perhaps this has already been discussed here..?
Options?
Pros and cons..
Thanks
M
