    Default Christmas in July! Ho! Ho! Ho!

    Well since I've been working 6 days a week for the last couple of months and some 10-16 hours and there is no end in sight of a 40 hour work week I asked Santa Cudalass to bring me a new toy!

    It arrived today and after struggling with the directions it's assembled and ready to go out to 'the shop'

    I do hope it will hold up for a long time. I'd thought about getting the 'Harbor Freight' version and there is the 'Wen' version but after doing a lot of research even though all seem to be made by the same guys at C. H. Ina company I went with the RYOBI version.

    I'll probably need to make an adapter for R2 Suckstoall (fancy shop-vac) but I like that it has the exhaust port;

    I'll practice on some wood pieces that ski gave me to learn how to make scales on before I attempt anything on the bone or synthic material that I picked up a while back.

    Thanks for looking! :

    I'm jealous!! I also need one of these. Last time I had the belt sander upside down in a clamp I thought, "What the He!! am I doing!?" I really need to stop buying razors and other things I need..... oh so badly.... and invest in something like this. Let us know how you like it. I agree that the exhaust port is key. Hooking up a vac will just keep things a lot neater and your wife wont yell at you when you come into the house full of dust.

    Nice addition to the shop. That should definitely save you a lot of time and effort making scales.
    If I had a choice, I would have gotten the Ryobi bent sander as well. I would think it would hold up longer, and the miter gauge is probably more stable. Currently I'm using a HF portable belt sander, so I can't use it for very detailed work!

    You will enjoy that. I have a cheapo one. It works, but is quite noisy and rattly. The exhaust port to shop vac is good.
    Mine makes a big mess! Handy for lots of chores!

    Nice kit Cuda.
    Ryobi's a pretty good brand IMO. I have one of their 16" scroll saws and it's been dependable for over 15 years now.
    Enjoy!

    I have no idea the validity of the statement, but I have heard it said that using a vacuum on your belt sander helps to cool the belts and helps them last longer. I recently got the Canadian Tire version. They are very handy for a few things. Enjoy. Sorry about the OT going on and on.

    My apologies as I should have shown that it indeed was a Combination Belt/Disc Sander. Here it is out in the 'shop' and after some experimentation;

    Also get the rubber abrasive ( Sanding Belt/Disk) cleaning block often sold at the same place.

    Thanks my friend, while I've never used one I 'Believe' that I understand the principle of the rubber as it is used to 'clean' the belts. If I'm correct that would make sense. Kind of like using a wheel dresser on a grinder's wheel/it would clean that but also help square it. The rubber would only clean.

    Yes! No? Maybe So
