The Butchered Blade

Ya, Spring has sprung. Other stuff to do, I suppose.
I reckon we all have a pile which needs work. They will come through here, no doubt!

Me, I still decide blade by blade if it qualifies as butchered, or simply needing cleaning up. That's what drives where I post my projects,,,
Figure the laser projects fit in here too just cause they are ' out there' and saving things on the edge as well.

About the re-grind, I agree that its a great razor and piece of history, a rattler "though some say that wasnt a universal technical term but more of a marketing name that moved into center stage", and that whether or not it is a re-grind is irrelevant . In this thread anyway.
But the history of blade technology, marketing strategies of yore, and demand whether organic or created is a very interesting subject. I have some blades that were re-ground when the technology and demand allowed. :beer1: maybe this is one? maybe not. hehehe

I dunno, but my criteria here is that it must need blade work.

Speaking of which, I figure the aforementioned Barber rattler will need a bit rounded off the heel to get it right.

HAR! :roflmao Since it seems the consensus that rattler grinds were the first concave razors, I suppose they were/are quite noisy compared to the wedges of before. Hence the 'Rattler' moniker?

And I don't care what English/Japanese/German , maker/ grinder , it came from....as long as it can be made shave worthy.....!!! If it were me...the time y'all spent worrying about these trivial things today, I would have had it cleaned up, rescaled, honed, and enjoyed a great shave....ROTFPMP.,...[emoji23]

Here is an excellent description on the rattler grind posted by the late Neil Miller. It was in fact more than just a marketing name but I will say I've seen the name stamped/etched on all sorts of grinds. http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...n-rattler.html
Sharptonn also posted a PDF document awhile ago that has the nomenclature used by the old Sheffield makers. The information in this document was gathered from one of the last of the old grinders as I understand it. Maybe he will be kind enough to repost it.
