Well, have both coming from him but I should be able to change the steel pin portion out for nickel silver. His are 1.6mm & I measured my nickel rod & it is 1.58mm so I think I can swap it out.Quote:

The problem with the silver is I have not found any which are genuine solid nickel-silver made like this. Stainless rivet bodies are terrible. Nickel-silver pins just seize-up in them. I have tried brass rivet-bodies, but they don't have the final look of Babur's collars.Quote:

Nickel silver pins to replace steel? I don't want to have to anneal the steel.. didn't you do that Tom and you still had to start over?
The silver collars I have from him are indeed plated brass. The pins, I don't use. The pins which came with the larger sized collars are indeed steel. They make great trim nails or for hanging pics.
I have ground the bottom of many of the silver collars to size them and the brass is obvious there. I have overpolished some on the buffer and they come up brass there as well.
I just dumped some of them out and a magnet picks them up. Steel 1/16 pins on the smaller ones as well.
Ah well, I got them for the collars, rod stock is cheap. Moral is, stay with the 1/16 inside-sized collars and use standard Nickel-silver or brass rod. Stay away from the larger and smaller-sized ones in silver, rod stock is probably not common. Not worth it, IMO.

Back to the razor I completed above, As grinding the nickel-plated collar from underneath, the brass can be seen.

Good thing about the brass, plated or not, is that the pins do not seize in them and all tightens-up nicely, IMO.

Whats especially great of Baber is his handy dandy pin length shim he includes just place it over the last side to be pinned and snip the pin flush against it, and voila perfect pin lengths every time.Quote:
