My first project will be...

Just won this, what do you guys think?
I'm planning on removing the scales to clean and then re-pinning, but I don't know what material they are made of, any cleaning suggestions for the scales?

Nice project. I wouldn't take the scales off a DD as a first project. All sorts of demons. The good thing about yours is it seems to be the scales and pins are fine. Soak for a while in soapy water. Get in there with paper towel wraped around a nail file.
Another subject is the blade.
