I'm thinking about purchasing this blade, something strange on blade pictures
So I am about to get this razor for fairly cheap and I was just wondering what this kind of damage would be called? I don't think it's considered pitting or what's underneath it is pitting is my concern... I think this would be called tarnish, a little bit of 600 grit greaseless and some polish looks like it should clean it up... From what I understand for the most part all razors can be brought back from the dead with work but pitting is something to avoid just because u might have to grind out too much of the razor to remove it.... Let me know what ha think... As always thank you!

I almost think that it's so much on the edge it might be compromised

Thanked: 3215No, No, No, my friend, that blade is done.
Cell rot has eaten the blade badly and weakened the steel that remains.
It is doubtful that you could put an edge on it and even if you did it, would ever hold an edge.
Do not waste your money, google Cell rot and learn to recognize it in the early stages, even in the early stages. Some razors and scale styles are more prone to Cell Rot.
it can be very frustrating/impossible, trying to get an edge on one. Do yourself a favor, especially when starting out, Buy razors in the best condition you can afford, Restoration begins…at purchase.

Thanked: 4828Really? It's rust and likely quite deep.

Thanked: 433Unless it's free or very close to it I would leave that blade alone. It will be LOTS of work and the steel could very well be shot near the edge

This is what I usually buy
That razor was a dubl duck and thought maybe it could be fixed with some grinding and knew that the damage was on the edge which was a concern... When I think of rust I think of the reddish residue that's appears on metal didn't think this was rust...
here re are the next line of buys from some people we will see, usually not so much damage

Buy it if you like 2/8 blades because that is what will be left after restoration. I am a bit worried about the blade of the Wostenholm pipe razor you show. Are you sure it does not have a huge crack running from the toe more or less parallel to the spine?
