Thanked: 4828I would go with the second or fourth scale shape. Wood can be tough to use if it is very thick because it looses it's flex. You need to find the sweet spot so it can work with the wedge to make your razor function like it should. The taper of your wedge needs to match the taper of your tang. I have never worked with the shell laminate so I have no idea how flexible it might be. Does it need a liner?

I'm agree with RezDog on the scale shape. i made a set of scales with too much of a curve ( maybe like the first design) and they feel like they are in the way when stropping. you could make a trial set out of some scrap possibly to see how they feel.

Thanked: 4828Nothing like a good mock up to show you any errors in design. Also the scales need to be very close to the tang width for a comfortable stropping grip, a small transition in size is normal. Do you have many vintage razors to examine to see how it all went together in the days of old?
