    You should be fine.
The friend who cuts them that I mentioned, he holds the blade in one hand, the dremel in the other. I feel like that is an accident waiting to happen, but I could be wrong, and he is successfully doing these. I was wrong once before ....... is that how you hold the blade ?

Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Kinda spooky if you ask me, but easy peasy!

Bruno, I believe that what you are saying is that by cutting the edge 'First' that will prevent the 'edge' from shattering if it were cut from spine to edge?

I don't have the luxury of a Dremel or such tool so when I've shortened a blade on my 10" grinder I've always just had a large container of cold water, then just touched the end to the wheel then immediately dipped the blade. It takes a very long time but so far I've never harmed the temper of a razors steel.

With that said, I'm always fearful of the edge as I can see the hard thin and fragile steel just almost exploding.

That's how I do is start at the edge or something will happen & the closer you get to the edge, chances are big that it may breakout more of the edge.

Guess I should also add that I clamped the dremel down and that way you can guide the blade and hold the ice cube. This will melt the ice and Keep the blade cool and you won't lose the temper. Not sure how to link this but google 'Stubl Duck'
