    It can be replated. If you try polishing the gold plating you will likely loose the etching and if done hard enough you might wear through the gold plating which is thin. If you replate you won't have the etching either.

    I would just give it a light cleaning with soap and water and a very light buffing. The finish looks pretty good from the photo.
