Thanked: 4200Appreciate the ideas, thanks.
Cris, nice finish with the tung oil, good looking scales.
I am thinking of starting with a bowl and brush, don't have a lot of bowl turning under my belt yet...
Something smaller and puck size.. maybe with a lid,, Put some Penhaligon's in it..
A matching stand as well for the brush, I can see too..hand cut dovetails, never tried em, thought that's what screws or dowels were for,, lol.

A bowl and brush would probably be better. Oak for scales is nice because of its springiness and light weight, but they are kind of lack luster. The scales that I posted were from an oak tree in south Atlanta, GA and the blade is a Union Razor made in what is now south Atlanta. The two just spoke to me and said put us together.
As for bowl turning, put on a full face shield and go at it. And hope it doesn't explode at the end. I prefer to turn oak when it is still green. You could also do it without a lathe using a hook knife or a scoop draw knife. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski
