Retractable Strop I am working on
Hi Gents
Today I started work on a retractable strop I got from "the Bay" some time ago. It looks to be a Silver plated item, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
I have photos and some info in the Strops section, see the link below for any members who want to read about it
Replace leather in Retractable razor strop
My question: Is there a member here that can re-plate in either a Silver plate, or other options I am considering are Nickel or maybe a black chrome? I would like to bring this item back to it's former glory if possible.
Here are some of the photos of it already opened up.

I know Razor Emporium does a LOT of plating, but I think they just dropped the silver plating do to chemicals involved. Still wouldn't hurt to contact them.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Thanks Matt,
I am going to try a light clean up and polish with Mothers metal polish and some 0000 steel wool I have here.
Also got a very generous offer from a member to use his buffers with him providing some guidance.
This will be interesting to see how it works out.
Best case I could end up with a nice shine on the unit and won't need to have the frame replated.
Worst case - the above process doesn't work out and I may have to follow the original plan.
Time will tellRickyB

Hi Rick,
You mentioned you were interested in replating. S Cook and Sons are silver platers at Arana Hills and Silversmiths & Platers (now trading as F J Mole) are at Birkdale. They are the only firms I know of in SE Qld that specialize in small work such as antiques, as opposed to automotive work - bumper bars and old Holden grilles etc I can't specifically recommend either of these outfits as I haven't used them myself but it's a pretty limited field and they're the ones that advertise in the antique magazines.

Supplier of Roo leather found.
In recent days I have been speaking with an Ebay seller of Kangaroo Hide pieces. His name is Geoff and his ebay business name is outthere09.
This all came about as I was looking for a replacement strop piece for my Retractable Strop. Geoff took the time to find out what I needed and a few days later he came back to me and said he can definitely supply what I want.
He can cut most items to order from strops, to wallet inserts, to almost full hides.
For anybody looking for a decent ebay seller of Roo hides, I believe you cant go past this one without at least stopping in to have a look.
Now just waiting for delivery of the leather strop replacement.RickyB
