Default Drill pressing pivot hole FAIL!

So I always use painters tape and carbon paper to draw my scales onto the horn... Now I was working the basic shape on my 80 flattened one side and was just about to start flattening the other side and realized I forgot to drill press the pins! At this paint the pen hole marks were faint and I thought I seen them and obviously I didn't! My question is can I use expoxy and horn dust to cover the holes? And drill press new pivot holes? Or is there a better way of alleviating this issue? As always thanks guys!

You should be able to fill them in with epoxy and redrill the holes. Make sure you let the epoxy completely cure other wise the drill bit might want to just follow the original hole since it be softer than the surrounding material. Somebody just posted about mixing baking soda and superglue to create a rock hard substance. Could try that though I have never tried it so not sure how that would work. I have been wanting to try it on something.

If the repair is somewhat visible use a larger washer to cover it as much as possible.

You will probably end up with stacked washers which can be very appealing.
If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

So baking soda and super glue on the inside then switch to epoxy and horn on the outside and sand?

And that's a great idea I actually have some stacked washers onthe way!

Here's the link to the super glue trick. Please note that he uses bone dust in a similar color to make the repair. I would think that you have some scrap that you could use to help hide the Aw Crap.

Also you can make your own stacked washers by just going from a larger to smaller washer. You can also mix SS with Brass for a different look.

I can't tell by your pictures how far off center the holes are. If they are not that far off you can move your hole over and drill a larger hole and put in eyelets.

I have used them before when I goofed up and damaged the area next to the pivot hole when taking scales apart. Like Bob Ross always said, happy little mistakes.

As a finger style guitar player - I have used superglue and baking soda to repair damaged finger nails and I can tell you that it works like a charm. Fingernails on steel strings will take much more of beating than scales.

You can stuff it full of horn dust and put a few drops of thinCA glue. Rinse repeat until you have built up enough to reshape.
