Chipped Torrey - Restoration possible?
I picked this up on ebay and got it in today. The condition looks great except for this f'n little chip.
So, before I go back through the whole bit of raising the issue with the seller, anyone here think this can be honed out? Or lost cause? I like everything else about this razor and hate to let it go if there's hope.

Thanked: 0Bust out the 600! I think you should be okay, you''ll just have a smaller razor in the end, obviously. Maybe the honemeisters think differently?

At least it's a semicircular chip, so you shouldn't have to worry about a hairline crack going off towards the spine from it. To me, it looks like it would be possible to hone it out.

Thanked: 13I once had a razor with a chip about the same size (and in about the same place actually). It took a lot of honing, but it did come out and now it is my best shaver SO you should be able to hone it out.

Great, that's what I was hoping to hear! Everything else on this one is too nice to toss it back given what I paid. I will make a good shaver out of it yet!

Tape the spine, slap some wet 1000 grit w/d sandpaper onto a glass or machined granite/marble plate and do circular honing with equal number of strokes/pressure on both sides of the razor. The chip is really minor. After that take off the tape, take it to the Norton, do about 40 strokes on the 4k and try a pyramid or two.

Welcome to SRP.
Ten minutes tops on a 1K grit Norton.
1K grit wet sandpaper will also do the job.Til shade is gone, til water is gone, Into the shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath.

I still detect a hint of it. Do a thumbnail test just in case.

I ran my thumbnail down it and didn't feel anything. Those pics are just after the 1K sandpaper only. I haven't started actually honing it to shave ready yet. By the time I finish that, any leftover hint of the chip should be long gone.
