washers/bushings?
Are there generally no washers between the scales and tang of a straight razor? I put them in on my first build, very thing brass washers, but I did that not knowing a better way to keep the tang from marking up opening and closing.

I'm in favor of them and I beleive most of the folks on SRP would agree. The trick is to make sure they are thin enough or it starts to make the razor "look wrong" at the pivot area.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Most of the razors I've pulled apart haven't had them. I do put them in when reassembling though. I use very thin brass shim stock and a hole punch to make then. Thinner than washers and more consistent
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed

Union Cutlery spikes and 4 points have them but I have only seen a couple others with them stock
I always add some made from 10thou" brass when I re-pin a razorSaved,
to shave another day.

Thanked: 1184I believe a razor that doesn't have them has worn them out or they were left out during a re scale. The scales rubbing against a metal tang do not stand a chance of lasting very long by comparison. Aside from warping scales I think this is why you see so many tangs with windshield wiper marks on them. I don't think a razor maker would build something and polish it all out just to let it self destruct after opening and closing it 15 times .
Just my opinion , have at it :<0)Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
