Thread: W&B Dreadnought in the making

Found this diamond in the rough for next to nothing. Had a split in toe that had to go. Couldn't ask for a better location. So I started working on another little project.


Unpinned it and cracked the scales the rest of the way. No worries, Ive got something better planned in black horn bark.


Finished the rough grinding and shaping of the new toe. The crack in the blade toe had to go. Now it has the beginnings of a nice new dreadnought tip.


Hit it with 2000 grit wet to dry to see what was under the gunk and grim. To my surprise no rust, no pits no chips. Just a few spots that should sand out.
That is, until I dropped the d@@n thing on the concrete floor of the garage and put one he!! of a split in the heal.




Project is now deader than a door nail. My first Mission Failure.
Oh well, on to the next one.

Love the dreadnought tip.... If it was the last razor on earth you could shave with 3/4 of the edge, who uses heels anyway

That's too bad. I really liked what you did with the tip.

If you were really Keen you could reshape the heel and cut that bit out, you may need to work on the transition between the blade and tang though to blend it a bit. In saying that I have to admit that I have no experience doing such things.

That sucks, looks like you were doing a nice job untill Murphy decided to pay a visit.

That tip is great, pity about the heel.

I would hone it up and see what happens. You have nothing to lose at this point unless you want to have a very long tang at the heel. As Job15 said who shaves on a heel. I don't.

Be forewarned, I tried honing a blade with a big crack and the blade split right down the long axis.

There is no way I would let a cracked blade near my face. I advise against trying to shave with it.

Im going to use it for more practice now. I want to see if I can pull off some spine work. Always learning and planning ahead for the next project. ;-)
