Have you checked Maggard supplies. I think that's the name. They have the nickel rods and brass rods sold by the foot i think.

Stainless is malleable, it just takes a whole lot of heavy beating to do it even after you heat it up to red hot with a torch. I've pinned plenty of things with steel and stainless steel and a 10 pound hammer, but I don't think I'm good enough to pull it off on a razor without breaking the scales or bending the tang or smashing my finger.
If you've never pinned before, you definitely don't want to start with steel pinning. Brass is a better choice to start with. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

I use only 1/16 inch brass rod or nickel silver for pins. Stainless steel is toooo hard. You can get a decent price from http://www.texasknife.com/vcom/index.php who carry both types. They do charge shipping and handling. There are many other sources as well. You can find brass rods on eBay, rarely the nickel silver though. Hope this is helpful. ajkenne

Thanked: 1184While your buying washers at Micro fasteners also look into #80 hex screws and nuts. Don't forget a couple of wrenches . Nothing like test pinning your work to check everything out before you smash that pin closed :<0)
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
