Thanked: 0Horn scales
So I've just finished making a set of horn scale and I've glued them to the wedge ready for pinning.
I was quite happy with the result until I noticed a very slight bend in them causing the blade not to sit centre.
I was able to bend the scales a little to fix the issue so its not as noticeable if you don't know about it.
Would anyone have any ideas how to straighten them without pulling them apart? Or would I just be better of leaving them be and be happy with it?

Try the search function to right of the page. Type in straightening horn scales or something along those lines.
There IS a thread on here about this.
I'm on my phone so I can't post the link.

Thanked: 4206Also, you said you glue them to the wedge prior to pinning?
Try leaving out the glue next time. Just peen, check and adjust wedge, peen some more, check again etc until tight and centered, I leave a long rod through my pivots while doing this to keep everything squared up. Might help keep things true and still manipulatable..
Good luck..

Thanked: 1184I used to make little wedges and jam them in making the scales over bend the way I want to correct. heat and freeze and let warm to room temp slowly. Now I make sure they stay straight before assembly. Test pins (hex head screws and nuts) If the blade is not off a lot you may adjust by peening the pivot pin. Peen the side of the pin towards the wedge to make the blade go away from that side. If that's not enough then tap the back pin on the side away from the wedge. If that doesn't work unpin and straighten again.
+1 on no glue.
You don't really want to freeze with the blade in.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
