Mini Hood Vent
I got home from kayaking this morning and decided i was going to build an exhaust system for my bedroom. Reading all about toxic wood dust made me a little worried about all the particulate matter i was creating.
I had an old exhaust fan, so i bought a few sheets of Styrofoam insulation that i fit into the window. I hooked some dryer duct to an amazon box that im covering with metal tape.
Took about two hours. I guess i just wanted to show it off.

Safety first looks like it should work just fine. I have friend that is a shop teacher and he works with exotic woods and was telling me about a wood from Africa he worked with that the dust was deadly. That was years ago but no point in risking health. Love the ingenuity!

I've often wondered how much saw dust you'd need to inhale for the negative effects to occur and how much protection is really necessary (paper mask, respirator, vacuum, etc.)

How are you getting this bad dust in your bedroom to start with? Tc

Well if you are highly allergic to it, then it takes very, very little.
I watched a guy have an asthma attack after hand sanding a piece of cocobolo for about one minute. Turns out he was really, really allergic to it.
He didn't let it stop him though, about a week later he put on a dust mask and elbow length latex gloves to finish it; and had no more problems.
A paper mask is all you need to really need to keep out saw dust, but if you around it a lot a respirator is more comfortable. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

TBH its not that bad really. I think a few weeks ago i got the idea in my head to design this after seeing a lot of lint buildup on my table and floating around in the air under my little lamp after a few hours of buffing with the rotary tool.
When i started researching wood for scales the whole sawdust issue set me off.
Like i said i had the fan already. I've been wanting to do something with it. It is slight overkill, but it made for a productive Saturday afternoon.
