Thanked: 90Grit rust remover blocks
Has anyone used Grit rust remover blocks on razors for cleaning the rust off? I use w/d sandpaper wrapped around a wine cork, but was wondering if one of these blocks might work better or worse. I currently see them in 280,2000and 3000. They use them for removing rust on knives.

I've used one on razors as a temporary fix until I get around to finishing the razor and find it slow. You're obviously going to scratch your razor so you're going to need to buff out the scratch pattern anyways, so why not just go to the buffer and skip the step. Plus using the buffer will make your scratch pattern all one direction.

Thanked: 4828I have some sticks with abrasive rubber ends on them, they look a lot like and eraser. I do not know if they are the same type of material or not. They are good for small spots. The wet dry combined with WD-40 and a wine cork is an excellent way to remove material and still keep the original lines of the razor nice and crisp. I limit the use of my buffer to the mid point. I only use it to take out the coarse sanding marks and then go back to hand work. I am going to go explore these blocks on google, and if they are 3000 grit at the top range there should not be much for scratches left behind.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

We used to get round sticks of rubberized abrasive. We used to call them "Brightboy" sticks. We used to used it alot for jeweling (damascening) machined parts. Very useful!

Thanked: 3215Which ones are you looking at? The Sandflex have been around for a long time but the fine is about 240 grit.
Cratex has also been around for years for rotary tools but the extra fine too only go up to 240 grit.
• Abrasive Grades and Colors:
• Coarse is Green, 46 grit
• Medium is Dark Brown, 90 grit
• Fine is Reddish Brown, 120 grit
• Extra Fine is Gray Green, 240 grit
