Default Date a Wade & Butcher

Sorry if this is a question somewhere else. I Just picked up a Wade & Butcher that says Sheffield (without England) and has the Circled B Arrow and Cross. (No pics currently) Scales are black horn of some kind, no cracks, but someone use some kind of poly coating on them. Could someone give me some idea when it was made. I'm thinking 1810-1830????

Without pictures it is super hard to guess. Before 1891, is all that I can say at this point. Wade and Butcher did not start to be until 1818 and went until 1921.

Welcome to SRP. From your description the best anyone could say is before 1889 (IIRC) When a treaty began where makers stamped goods with country of origin. Without photos of the shape of the scales, style of blade it is a generic W&B.

Edit .......... or maybe it was 1891 ..........

I think we can all agree that it was long enough ago that none of us were there, except maybe Bill.

What are you going to do to restore it? if the blade and scales are still in good shape I would just hone it, (if you know how) and start using it. JMHO, just because its not all shined up doesn't mean you can't hone it and shave with it.

Yes it amazes me how many 150 year old razors there are with the factory finish on them yet.....

    Or better!
