    Default All cracked up

Been meaning to rescale this frame back for quite some time. Finally got a break from restoring my boat and it's lovely British inboard diesel to work on my razors.

Loved the white scales but their time was up.

    Forgot to take before photos.[emoji849]

These are the old cracked scales sitting next to the new hardware, all turned on the lathe from the same round stock. Making those little buggers took a bit of experimenting on my part.

Next up the scales, I have a bunch of mahogany left over from some other projects figured I'd give it a shot. Originally thought to make it from a piece of g10 I had, but decided against covering the shop in glass.

Used creo ptc to model the scales on the pc, inventor hsm for the CAM. Been doing a lot of this for work, so I figured I'd give it a shot for these scales.

Used some PSA to hold the material down. It worked a little too well, or I'm just a little heavy handed [emoji849] snapped a set trying to get them off after it was done.

Second trial came out better, used some CA to seal, then hit them with 1000 grit paper. After pinning the old wedge in here are the results.

    Ready to go another round!

    Cheers

Good effort. Can't say many folks use a milling machine to cut out scales or make their own collars and pins on a lathe. Seems like the long was around the barn to me but you must enjoy what you do or you would not have done it that way.
Consider using smaller collar/washers for the pins. Those are so large they appear out of place on the scales. The collars/washers should lay flat on the scales. They seem to not follow the contour of the scales. The washers at the wedge end appear to overhang the contour at the end of the scales. Could be just the photo though. Maybe the wedge pin should not be so close to the end of the scales. What does the wedge look like?
Read the 'How to' sticky at the top of the forum page. Lots of ideas on pinning razors.

This was the quick and dirty trial, simple design, test out the material and setup. Plus I just wanted to get the razor back in service quickly.

I intend to make some more intricate scales down the road.

Good point on the washers and wedge. The old wedge was too small and washers, I suppose you could say they're too big. I may be biased ( I did make them after all) but it's a razor for my personal use, and I like it.
