Thread: Joseph Allen & Sons - recent restoral

Received this in blade-only form as part of an ebay lot of around 6 old blades. The blade took a while to clean up. Did it all with sandpaper. I now have a buffer which can do magic quickly after 400 grit flap.

Handles: Desert Ironwood buffed/waxed only
Spacer, Collar, Pins: Brass

I've been doing lots of this while on Dad-duty which is 8-midnight. I use a baby monitor in my shop . I have a few other razors in the wings - been experimenting with shellac sealer and phenolic resin varnish. Stuff looks awesome but takes 2 weeks to cure before you can rub it out.

Thanks. C utz, desert ironwood is tough to locate in the size we need or for a reasonable price. It's a long sad tale of how I got a little bit. PM me if you have to get some.

I like it! For next time I recommend Truoil with wax... It's cheap enough and easy to find, while adding an extra dimension to the protection.

Wow, that is a good looking wood. I like the way the grain goes at an angle in relation to the length of the scales

Shellac and a non poly varnish make for a beautiful finish, worth the cure time to rub out in my opinion. Shellac only also makes a good looking finish.
