Thread: Washer ID modification

Here's my way of widening washer ID's. I used super glue to hold these while I drilled them from 1/16 ID's to 3/32". Heat the glue with a soldering iron, hair drier or use Golden West Super Solvent to release the glue.

Nice, beats what I have been using, these diamond files from Hobby Lobby, about $5. These are nice for tapering the hole in the scale though.

Here is the link from HL, Harbor Freight also sells a set of diamond bits that work well in a Dremel or pin vice.

Thanks good idea, could work using double sided tape on a piece of hardwood.

Great ideas from the OP and Jamie. I find that when I 'dome' washers, the inside diameter gets 'squashed' up a little so like Euclid I've been using a reamer. However using a drill is much faster I'd imagine.

My wood working friend 'Ski' turned me onto using Scotch Professional Double Stick Tape (it's about the same thickness as regular Scotch Tape) to hold wood together when you need to have two identical pieces cut. So a few weeks ago I picked up some double stick tape but I couldn't find the 'Professional' only the 'Permanent" the permanent is much harder to work with (removing the sticky is a BEACH) but I 'think' that it would work Very Well for holding washers while drilling.

I"m on a 'vacation' but once I"m home and rested I'll give it a go and get back with the results.
