Go to the library and look at all the sections.
Straight Razor Place Library - Straight Razor Place Library
After years, I still go back there when I have a question that i want and answer for. If nothing else to find a correct name for something I have a question for the group about.

Thanked: 4207Welcome to the forum.
As Richard suggested, check out the scads of info in the library. Also adding pics of the razor will help folks steer you via there own experiences.
A soft touch, and a nearby me to would never hurt either..

Thanked: 3215For sanding the scales or the blade?
A lot depends on the condition and what you are shooting for, clean up or mirror finish.
I start all restores with WD40 and 000 steel wool, a wooden stir stick, wrapped in steel wool will get between the scales. Once clean, then decide which way to go.
Also you should put the razor on a hone and make sure it will take and hold an edge, before you invest hours into a restore, only to find the steel is bad.
Generally 600 wet & dry is a good starting point for a blade and can be brought to a polish after 1&2k paper.
