made a razor and scales :)
hello everyone wanted to share my latest small project , so i had some free time took a gold dollar 66(i know i know) , used the grinding wheels on it , did a bit of etching with a DC power source and some salt and vinegar solution , and then dunked it in some hot vinegar for 10 minutes .
the scales were made from an old broken shelf .
sorry if the pictures are not in very good quality .
i know gold dollars have a reputation but i was not going to do this to a nice vintage razor .
had fun working on it just wanted to share it and get some feedback

It would be cool to see that blade on scales that look like a Viking shipBeing Manly is important, how else will boys learn how to be a man?

that is a great idea! one would never know it wasn't a custom forged razor. do you plan on honing it? my only concern/criticism would be that the curve of the scales might make for difficult stropping.(i know from some personnel experience). again, nice job, makes me think of getting one myself!

I have set the bevel today and will continue tomorrow
Didn't think about the stroping I can see the potential problem

Thanked: 98How did the honing and shave turn out azourital, ? I like your thinking out of the Box as it is past time for some advancements in razor scales, tuning, etc.
I have been working on a quick release blade and scale set, hehe, is not as easy as it sounds, when I get the thing presentable, will post some pics then. Some of you Gent's may have seen scales done in filigree ? I saw some in an article and was immediately wanting to make my own pair of a different design. I did make a pvc razor holder that works great for honing a scale less blade, they (blade) slide in, lock or slide out easy to put the scales back on.
Anyway, would like to hear about your progress.

That would scare my wife, doughter, cat and dog right out of the house. I think it's a great make-over for the GD, and I can imagine the fun you had working on it. Hopefully it honed up well, and gave a pleasant shave!
