Restoration CD question
I went to pick up Billy's Blades restoration CD and had a few quick questions before I pulled the trigger. I haven't even had my first shave yet, so I don't plan on jumping into restoration right off the bat. However, the CD is only 26 bucks and seems to have some decent information on things such as honing, care, and maintenance. (yeah yeah yeah, I realize a week ago I wanted "the least expensive way to try out wet shaving, now I'm well over $100 invested and I haven't even shaved yet
)
When I went to complete the transaction, I noticed the email was "urleebird". Now I remember reading controversy about this name and ebay, I believe. Now I can't find it, and don't remember the details. That's Billy right? Am I good to complete the transaction?

Bill's an excellent vendor, so no problems there. The controversy you may have read about was a squabble in the Off Topic forum. I didn't follow the thread, but a number of members got into a fight and wound up leaving SRP for good. Bill was one of the guys who left.
He really knows his stuff and is missed by many, so you won't go wrong in ordering from him.

Thanked: 1Urleebird is Bill, a former (inactive) SRP member. I'm not sure what controversy you are referring to as regards Ebay but many people here will speak very highly of his integrity and skills. I would go ahead and order with confidence.
Oh, you don't have to explain your "investment' in shaving even though you haven't shaved yet. We know what it's like

I got recently a razor (Comet Special) and restoration cd.
Everything was ok with Bill, razor was as described and very well packed and restored. I could say that he's not the quickest in shipping and responding to email, but we aren't all ultra fast manager with no time to breath and, maybe, learning to shave with straight helps considering life in a slower way like old times.

The 'Ebay issue' was some ignorant numb-nut that was giving Bill a hard time.
Look up his handle 'urleebird' on ebay and check out his 'About me' site. It's rather funny! You get all the info on the 'issue' there.......
Bills a great guy. You can trust him!

Wow, great story on "About me". There's always something to learn.
I found his basic guides to be very useful, and all these things confirm the good impression I had of Bill Ellis.

Since you're just starting out...you might seriously consider Lynn's DVD (see 1st sticky in the buy/sell/trade forum). IMHO, this is a better resource if you want to learn the basics about straights, honing, stropping, shaving, and minor repair. Bill's cool and I do have his CD book too, but it's much more focused on razor restoration. Bill's CD is loaded with good stuff and I've studied it like a freakin' sacred text
