Your pretty much right on everything. I had to hand sand to prevent the tubing from heating up and ruining the glue. And because the brass was harder than the horn the tubing kept trying to stick out from the horn which is not a problem on the outside but on the inside it causes issues. I had to sand it in a funny matter to keep that from happening. I probably should havebevelled out the inside of the tubing with a drill bit for the wedge. I did eventually get it to hold tight to the wage but It didn't want to do that at first. As for the washer under the river my problem was that the scales kept trying to move underneath the pin and it kept wanting to change its Centering. And you can't see the tubing once it has been penned the washers cover them up completely. If you didn't apply a washer then you could probably peen directly to the tubing and get a really neat effect. To me this would be a really good idea for wood scales If you want to try to peen a little tighter than you would with just a super glue reinforcement.
