Should I start over?
So I'm in the midst of making my first set of scales and I have run into a glitch, see picture.
Should I scrap these scales and start over? Is this angle to much? Note this is the wedge end.
This will be my own razor so I'm the only one looking at it I'm just curious if this will cause a big issue when it's time to pin it up. Thanks

OUCH!!!
I guess you could try 2 different approaches in fixing this.....
1. Make a new set of scales and be careful when drilling the hole.
2. Fill the existing whole with some wood dust mixed with glue and redrill the hole. I don't know how strong it would be. Worth a shot?
Just some food for thought......
I know others will chime in.Is it over there or over yonder?

If you're using collars you could always go a bit larger on the hole size to straighten it out. If you don't want the wedge to move (ever) you could fill with epoxy or filler material while pinning. Just be sure it's right before you do!
Either way, what have you got to lose by trying if you were just going to throw the scales out anyways? It will be a good learning experience!

I would just pin it together and not stress over it.

No I drilled before shaping.Unfortunately I found my drill press table was just loose enough to through it out of level. It's such a new tool for me that it never crossed my mind to recheck it again after I set it up a few days ago. Feel like a bone head but I guess it could be worse.
Thanks for all the tips fellas. I've hung it up for the night gonna come back to it in the a.m. Regardless of what I do I'll be buying more blanks of horn, wood and otherwise cause this stuff is fun.

Pin them up and see how they sit. You'll know whether it's a problem right away. If it is, either fill with epoxy and re-drill, or chuck away and start again.
It's all good experience.

All sounds good to me...
All except tossing the scales.
You may want to keep them for any shorty projects in the future.Mike

If you have more of the material make a new left an right scale an have to sets hopefully you'll find a new project that needs scales!

I would pin it and use it. My first scales were not perfect, but they worked fine.
Hyperbole is highly exaggerated.
