How short is too short?
I have a few badly chipped blades that I was going to toss, but after a few trips to the butchered blade thread I got a little more inspired. So they may become shortys. The questions I have are
How short would you say is too short? IE no longer comfortable/practical/balanced, etc.
What is the shortest blade you own? How does it perform?
To be clear, I'm talking about blade length (usually about 3") not width. Thanks in advance!

How short is too short?
When I sit at the plastic booths in McDonald's , my feet don't touch the floor.

I'm not sure there can be a blade too short, as they can be used for trimming around beards. A shorter blade just means more strokes.

I have a Max Sprecher shortie, it's an 1-1/2" blade length, it's a blade I have done full shaves and trimming, I don't know if it makes a difference, most guys don't se the whole blade anyway, but I find it comfortable to use. Most Kamisori are only 2". Tc

theres your answer right there
a lot of Japanese Str8s are only 2.5" about,
also a Shavette (DE) blade is only about 1.5" so anything from there up is still good for daily shavers,Last edited by Substance; 08-26-2016 at 10:29 AM. Reason: Illiterate
Saved,
to shave another day.

I have a shavette with a DE blade as well and it's great. However the overall is similar to a straight. I worry that if I trim back a straight razor below say 1.5" the balance will be all out of whack. Of course... they would have been trash anyways...

I've made a few shorties.
My smallest is just slightly longer than a single edge razor blade, and quite comfortable to shave with. (Top right) And two straights that are shorties, but were made that way.
The first being the one Joseph Rogers & Sons (bottom left)
I thought something looked different about this razor when I bought it, but didn't find out till I set it next to some other's on the work bench.
But I don't think I'd go any shorter than my shortest one. JMOMike

Thanked: 3215If you think about it, you really only shave with about 1 inch of blade, at a time…

I think some of those shorties in the past found use in the Project Coochie Razor thread, perhaps the greatest thread in SRP history.
