Thanked: 17Mountain laurel razor scales?
Has anyone here ever used mountain laurel for scales. I am in PA and around our hunting camp laurel abounds, and I'd like to scale a razor with some local laurel to create an heirloom tribute to the generations of our family that have enjoyed the area.

The root or better yet burl of Mountain Laurel is a far better source than the wood above ground. I have several old tools with Mtn.Laurel handles. Be aware that all parts of the plant are toxic and use a good respirator when sanding and cutting and treat the dust as a hazardous material . It should not present a toxic hazzard when finished however. See >> Mountain Laurel

Thanked: 17That wood looks awesome, but what a nontraditional shape for scales, I'm not sure which end is the pivot and which is the wedge. Just kidding. A little trivia mountain laurel is also the PA state flower.
