Thread: Scale polishing - a little help please?

thank you all for your excellent recommendations. im going to try them all and hopefully come out the other side with a process that works for me. looks like i need to get me some liquid plastic polish, suck it up, and stay off the buffer for this last step.

what about a good quality car wax? has anyone tried it? like menguiars or better?

Oh, yea, for the buildup on the pins, take a soft toothbrush, and cut the bristles about a ¼ inch from the plastic base, brush the pins, changing directions, 90 degrees. Buff with a folded into quarters, micro fiber.

I polish the pins smooth, with a 3-4-inch piece of chopstick with a divot drilled on one end in a drill press, and a dab of diamond paste, then metal polish.

I buff the scales on the buffer and some does load up on the pins and collars, then use the cut down toothbrush. If you have a lot of hard build up, a bamboo toothpick is great for breaking it up. Bamboo tooth pick are sharper and stronger, than regular toothpicks.

They are also great for a stripped-out screws in wood, dip the tooth pick in wood glue, tap into the hole and break off flush, if needed use 2, drive the screw in tight.

If you have access to an ultrasonic cleaner it will get that gunk out really fast. Warm water and Dawn work great in the cleaner
