    Default Renewing gold wash

Hi guys its been quite a while between posts( three beautiful kids) that sort of time any how i just
Picked up a nice Flic silver steel for a nice price its in great shape but the gold wadh has pretty much gone so i would like to renew it .Im going to give it a go as soon as i can afford a kit .Just wondering if anyone has had good results or even tried it befor , i spoke with the guy who sells tbe kits and he says i will have to nickel coat it befor i can gold coat it because it wont stick to the steel so unless there are any differing opinions thats what im going to try.here are some pics of tje razor at the moment and i will take some pics after and we will see how it goes.cheers.

Might want to do some searching on here in the archives

User name AaronX had a thread about how he did it about 8-9 years ago his was the best I have seen done in a Homebrew kit... I got to look at one of his in person that he had sent in for honing...

There might be some other threads on here to with info

    Here is one of them

Yea, there was a more recent post, a year or so.

Castwell’s, sells several plating kits, they are a bit pricy…

Personally, I stay away from razors with gold plating, just because the plating is so, fragile.

    Good luck.

My feelings exactly. I wouldn't even want to shave with one for fear of damaging it while wiping lather off or drying the razor.

Got a few razors with gold wash and they are not as delicate as you would think as far as damaging the gold wiping the lather off the blade goes. Over time I am sure there would be but so far so good. It takes very little with a metal polish compound to wipe the gold away though.

I shouldn't be so negative about something that I have zero experience with, but something about it just brings out this reaction in me.

Yeh Caswell is where I was thinking of getting the kit from they have a factory/office in Australia and I called them for some advice because in there adds it doesn't say you can gold plate directly to steel. Its a little pricey but I think you would be able to do quite a few razors with what you get.
