Workshop: Some things I've learned
I want to thank everyone who encouraged me to get a dust collection system. I finally got it up and running and it makes a big difference. Doesn't cost that much either.
I went with the Central Machinery 13 gallon from Harbor Freight, which was under $120 with a coupon. It's doing great so far, hopefully it will perform over time.
I then ordered the hose, some connectors and a quality dust collection bag from Rockler - the 5 micron DustRight.
I'll attach it to power tools, or clamp the hose on the work surface when sanding by hand or using the buffer.
Next, I found some awesome sand paper 3M Prograde Precision sanding paper. $4 per pack. It sands better and lasts much, much longer. It also doesn't clog as easily. My only wish is that they made it with finer grits as 400 is the highest.
As well, I've read a lot about Mother's and 3M Marine. One of the mentor's suggested using a green colored bar as part of the finishing process. I still use Mother's and 3M, though the colored bars make the process much faster.
Many, many thanks to the mentors and more experienced.
